BEHIND BLUE EYES
Limp Bizkit

Em G D
No one knows what it's like, to be the bad man,
C A
To be the sad man, behind blue eyes
Em G D
No one knows what it's like to be hated,
C A
To be fated, to telling only lies

CHORUS
C D G
But my dreams, they aren't as empty,
C D E
As my conscience seems to be
Bm C
I have hours, only lonely
D A
My love is vengeance that's never free

No one knows what it's like to feel these feelings
Like I do, and I blame you
No one bites back as hard on their anger
None of my pain and woe, can show through

CHORUS

D Bm A E
When my fist clenches crack it open
Bm G D
Before I use it and lose my cool
Bm A E
When I smile tell me some bad news
Bm A E
Before I laugh and act like a fool

And if I swallow anything evil
Stick your finger down my throat
If I shiver please give me a blanket
Keep me warm let me wear your coat

No one knows what it's like, to be the bad man
To be the sad man, behind blue eyes

Limp Bizkit Biography

Source: Magazines Limp Bizkit-photo
Limp Bizkit is a band from Jacksonville, Florida. They started out on around late 1994 giving free shows and concerts whenever they could get a gig. Yes i know its hard to believe but the Number 1 band in the nation once was nothing but your tipical Local Band trying to get a record deal. Fred and Sam met up and became good friends when Sam suggested his cousin, John Otto, to play the drums for the band. Later, Wes was brought into the picture along with House of Pains main man, DJ Lethal and Limp Bizkit was started. They got their name when Fred was talking to his friend (and now roadie) when said that "his brain was like a limp biscuit." So Fred liked it and the name of their band after it.

This is an awesome band that already has a large fan base from touring with Family Values, and other tours that tend to attract large crowds. It also helps when you open for bands such as Korn and the Deftones. Limp Bizkit, after all the struggles and shit they had to put up with, has the biggest fan crowd in North America with their first hit "Faith from the album 3 Dollar Bill Ya'll, then they really hit it big with there big hit "Nookie" which was on there sophmore album, Significant Other.

After "Nookie" took the top spot on every chart in Canada and US, it was time for Limp Bizkit to give alittle something back to the fans. That summer, Limp Bizkit started the now famous "Back to Basics Tour". This tour was a free tour, first come first serve basis and was ment to give something back to the fans and to thank them for their support. Soon after that Fred and the gang got ready to release their Junior (3rd) record to the public. Struggling with titles such as "Limpendence Day" and "The Chocolate Starfish and the Hotdog Flavored Water," Limp Bizkit finally decided on a name, "The Chocolate Starfish and the Hotdog Flavored Water." Around November/October they released the album. It was a total hit right away selling thousands within the first week. With hits such as "rollin" and "my generation" Limp Bizkit was back on top of the world.

Wes Borland dropped the group to set off in his own way, and this left the band short a guitarist. After trying Fred, and having a nation wide contest, then hadn't found anyone. John Otto, at a bar, was having fun. He ran into Mike Smith, former S.N.O.T native. They found each other talking, eventually jamming, and eventually touring.

Their fourth album is dropped Septemeber 23rd, and the first single off of it is "Eat You Alive". Results May Vary is the title of the album, and now is housing "Behind Blue Eyes" as it's single.

Papa Roach Biography

Papa Roach is...
Coby Dick - Vocals
Jerry - Guitar
Tobin - Bass
Dave - Drums

Bio #1

I'm super-flamboyant, super-happy, and super-pissed-off," understates Papa Roach frontman Coby Dick. "I'm off the hook at shows. I've done stupid things where our lawyer was going, 'You can't be doing that!' but I've also hugged a million kids. How Nirvana was when they came out - that new edge of giving kids a release of emotions - that's how I hope people connect with Papa Roach's music. I want to cause every emotion in people. I want them to fight, to fuck; I want to bring out their violence, their sadness, and their happiness." Singer-Songwriter Dick, Guitarist Jerry Horton, Bassist Tobin Esperance, and Drummer Dave Buckner acheive Dicks estimable goals with INFEST.

Produced by Jay Baumgardner (whose worked with Coal Chamber and System of a Down), Papa Roach's major label debut "is about dealing with everyday struggle,"according to Dick, whose lyrics for songs like "Broken Home," "Never Enough," "Binge," "Thrown Away," and "Last Resort," infest's first radio track are intensely personal and darkly seductive. Inspired from everything from Divorce ("Broken Home"), struggles with alcohol ("Binge"), Attention Deficit Disorder ("Thrown Away"), and suicide. ("Last Resort") Dick tends to write in the first person. "I deal a lot with the line between good and evil. And I tiptoe down that line myself," he confesses.

"I have a side that's responsible, a part that knows right from wrong, and I have my punk rock, 'fuck everything' side." Says Horton of the band's sound; "We lean more towards hip hop, punk and funk, and we also have a rock influence, but we're not really rap-core. The songs have a pop structure, and they're very melodic, with a lot of layers and orchestration." For his part, Dick listens to hardcore bands, digs underground hip hop, played clarinet in his High Schools prize-winning wind ensemble and names Faith No Mores Mike Patton as one of his biggest influences.

Press raves, too, bare out Papa Roach's diverse approach. Las Vegas City Life praised the quartet for it's "surprising moments of vulnerability and sensitivity in it's cathartic opera-core, [Dick] sounding almost pleading in the world weary voice of youth betrayed"; the publication also informed, "Papa Roach stakes out it's territory" (May 20, 1999). Sacramento's News & Review, meanwhile voted the band "most likely to show up Rage Against the Machine at their own gig" (June 3, 1999), and the San Jose Mercury News commended the foursome's "sheer urban grit" and Dick's "randy, alluring and apocalyptic" vocals (Aug. 5, 1999). Not bad for a kid who began "playing" music in his garage with "garbage cans and baseball bats" (and who later moved out while still in high school and began working at an airforce base hospital to support himself).

Growing up in the Northern California town of Vacaville - for the moment best known as the onion capital of the world. P-Roach, as their legion of fans call them, formed in high school (Horton did not attend school with the others; he met them via an ex-girlfriend who was a P-Roach fan.) At the teens' first gig, a 1993 school talent show, Dick's mom overheard a judge mutter, "I hope they don't quit their day jobs." The band improved by leaps and bounds, however, and was soon selling out 300-500 seat venues (some of which would have required fake IDs had the band members been patrons). Despite their youth, the members of Papa Roach brought a wealth of experience to their developing sound.

Buckner, a Los Angeles native whose first instrument was violin, was taking drum lessons from a 70-year-old female jazz drummer by the time he reached junior high. He quickly made first chair in concert band but shortly thereafter got his first drum kit (for Christmas) and proclaimed: "I'm sick of this school band crap - I wanna play rock 'n' roll!" His next move? "I sat down with [Led Zeppelin's] Physical Graffiti and a set of headphones and went to work." He says of his influences: "I remember being three years oldand listening to [Pink Floyd's] The Wall on car rides with my Mom. Later I would kick it at my aunt and uncle's with Suicidal Tendencies and Metallica on vinyl. My friends in grade school got me into Run-DMC and the Beastie Boys, and junior high was all about classic rock. In high school, I was into a whole range of stuff, from John Coltrane to Fugazi.

That's when I discovered all the great and beautiful music that isn't part of the mainstream. I've kept my mind open since then. Esperance - who joined P-Roach at 13 - grewup watching his Dad play bass. "He got me my first bass when I was 10, " he recalls. His fingers blistered from the heavy bottom end he provides P-Roach, Esperance continues: "I had friends who were into jazz and reggae, and I took those and lumped them together. My Mom and I would listen to the same jazz music, or the Doors, or Duke Ellington. Then I had my punk rock category. He confirms that Papa Roach's music takes a similarly melting-pot tack, commenting: "People put us in the rap-rock category. I don't care what they call us, but we definitely do it differently from anyone out their right now."

Though Infest is Papa Roach's major-leagues bow, the band has been spewing music to the masses via CD for several years. Their first recording adventure was 1995's Caca Bonita, whcihc was followed by Old Friends From Young Years. "That's what the future is, " Dick says of the title. "We wanna have longevity, and by putting that idea in the cosmos - it's sort of a self-fulfilling prophecy." Two more independent CD's also issued on the band's Onion Hardcore Recordings, built on the momentum: 1998's 5 Tracks Deep (which featured the song "Revenge" [formerly "Revenge In Japanese"], heard on an episode of MTV's "Road Rules") and 1999's "Let 'Em Know". Cranking these out at a steady pace did not keep P-Roach rom the stage, however.

On the contrary, the band gigged steadily all over California - sometimes mounting as many as 14 shows a month - with acts like Kid Rock, Static-X, Incubus, Bad Brains and other such compadres on The Warped Tour. One of the questions most frequently aimed at the band concerns their moniker. It seems Buckner had a CD by jazz musician Pancho Sanchez called Papa Gato. The title struck a chord with Dick, whose grandfather's last name was Roatch - he was "Papa Roatch" to his family.

Still, according to Dick: "For the longest time, it's had nothing to do with my grandpa. We drew up this cockroach logo because we wanted to avoid the weed thing. Weed's okay, but it's not what we're about; we're kinda like the cockroach that can survive anything - we're tough, warrior soldier band. We get out there and put the work in." The band also takes pride in their familial orientation. "We're a team," Dick insists. "Some bands are like, 'We just fired our guitar player.' We don't do that shit; we don't fire people. We're family - you get booted out!" Esperance concurs: "We get along better than most any other band in the world. If you were to hang out with us, you'd wonder what the hell was wrong with us. We're constantly laughing, then getting in arguments, telling each other to fuck off, then we're best friends again in the next minute. We can't really agree on a whole lot, except the music and the band. We're real different people, but P- Roach is where we come together.

And come together they do, especially in a live setting. They're pretty goodat getting the audience to join together with the band: At any given show, the fans are onstage and airborne nearly as much as Papa Roach. The four piece has incited this mania over and over, headlining major clubs from San Francisco to Los Angeles, playing more than 400 shows since 1993. Despite such seasoning, Infest represents the beginning of this young band's journey. As the title track promises, these Roach's are "coming to infest." Those who prefer enlightenment to escapism will surely want to invest. "Pop music like Britney Spears is existence in the dark," Dick argues. "Its' candy. I don't want to escape reality - I want to go deeper into it."

Bio #2

In the small Northern California town of Vacaville, four high school friends, Jacoby Shaddix, Jerry Horton, Dave Buckner, and Will James, decided to start a band. In 1993, they became Papa Roach, a band whose influences included prominent Bay Area acts such as Faith No More and Primus. Papa Roach quickly rose to the top of the Vacaville music scene with their blending of hip-hop, groove-funk, and hardcore.
After a couple of years of playing coffeehouses, pizza joints, and keg-parties, they were headlining such places as the Cactus Club in San Jose, the Cattle Club in Sacramento, and the Berkeley Square in Berkeley.

Due to the antics of unpredictable Shaddix, and the raw power supplied by the band in live performances, Papa Roach captured the attention of younger audiences. In turn, kids showed their appreciation for the band by faithfully attending all the band's shows. In these early years, Papa Roach was able to support the Deftones on two shows, and have bands such as Incubus, Snot, Far, Human Waste Project, Downset and Fu Manchu open for them.

In the summer of 1996, while realizing athat they had something special, Papa Roach decided to make changes necessary to reach the next level. First, the band replaced bass player Will James because his commitment to church summer camp that would have prevented the band from practicing and playing any shows over the summer. Papa Roach did not have to go far to find their new bass player. Tobin Esperance, who was only 16 years old and who had been a roadie for Papa Roach since age 13, readily became the new bass player. Second, the band hired a manager, Bret Bair, to help them with bookings, promotions, and merchandising. With a new bass player and management in place, Papa Roach decided to enter the studio to record a full-length CD.

"Old Friends From Young Years" was recorded for $700 at E.S.P. Studios in Pittsburg, California, and was subsequently released in February of 1997. The CD contains 13 tracks, including the songs "Orange Drive Palms", and "Liquid Diet". Without any push from the band or management, many smaller independent and college radio stations in Chico, Davis, San Jose, Sacramento, and the Bay Area added Papa Roach to their playlists. To the bands' surprise, Papa Roach charted number one as Cal-State Sacramento's most requested band for five consecutive weeks. Papa Roach celebrated the release of their first album with several CD release shows. The Vacaville CD release show was attended by 700 kids, while CD release shows in Berkeley and Sacramento were attended by 400 and 300 kids, respectively.

Papa Roach's emerging popularity did not escape the eyes and ears of promoters, who started booking the band as a support act on many larger national shows. In March of 1997, Papa Roach played main support to Suicidal Tendencies in front of 1,000 people in Sacramento. They also either headlined or supported many of today's up and coming acts in the aggressive rock genre, including Incubus, Snot, Far, Human Waste Project, (hed) p.e., Sevendust, WIll Haven and Powerman 5000. Papa Roach has also played Southern California on a frequent basis, and is now becoming a regular at such reknowned clubs as the Troubador in Hollywood, and Soma in San Diego.

In April 1998, Papa Roach released "5 Tracks Deep", and E.P. containing five songs which sold 1,000 copies within the first month after its release. This CD exemplifies the natural growth in musicianship and song-writing ability within band since "Old Friends From Young Years" was recorded 18 months earlier. The songs "Revenge in Japanese" is a perfect example of the Papa Roach trademark sound where hip-hop verses lead to a catchy radio-friendly chorus. This results in a song with both energy and emotion that will attract diverse crowds of people.

A New Found Glory Biography

Source: http://www.newfoundglory.com A New Found Glory-photo
The lives of New Found Glory run parallel to the lives of most of their fans over the past few years -- they've experienced heartbreak, left school for the real world, finally moved out of their homes and found careers. And though the group has spawned outstanding international notoriety over the past couple years, New Found Glory are just as easy to connect with as a best friend, with hardly any fan/band separation to be found.

And even for those who haven't lived along the same lines, relating to New Found Glory's music and message is a cakewalk. Heartache? Loss of a loved one? Enjoying your life? Mixed emotions? Just a few of the topics New Found Glory have touched upon, if not delved into, during their illustrious career.

Launching in 1997 as a conglomerate of various acts in the Florida region (including Shai Hulud, a rather accomplished hardcore group), New Found Glory's winning mix drew from several hats -- straightforward rock hits, pop-punk energy and hardcore song structure -- to create a unique melding of musical ideas.

After releasing an EP on a local Florida label, Drive-Thru Records caught wind of the group, releasing a full-length (Nothing Gold Can Stay) in 1998 and an EP (From The Screen To Your Stereo). In 2000, MCA and Drive-Thru teamed up to release the band's highly successful self-titled album that spawned such hits as "Hit Or Miss," which flew straight into heavy rotation charts of the nation's largest rock radio stations and resulted in nearly-gold sales.

With all the aforementioned points, would one really expect another record that mimics their self-titled full-length, boasting much of the same content? It's not likely.

Enter Sticks And Stones, to be released June 11 on MCA/Drive-Thru. The only resemblance Sticks And Stones bears to the self-titled album are the skillful, melodic songwriting, trademark hook-laden melodies and choruses, all released on the same label, created by the same musicians and coordinated by the same producer, Neal Avron (Everclear and the Wallflowers).

So, what's changed? The lyrical content, for one, has matured.

"On the last record, all the songs were about girls. That's what I think we write the best," says Steve Klein, guitarist. "On this record, we try to kind of steer away from that a little bit, [yet] still keep the same feeling and melodic lyrical content. We actually have a song about Jordan's grandfather that passed away, and there are songs about leaving your hometown, moving to a new state and growing up."

Still Sticks And Stones has plenty of heartbreak material to whet many a fan's appetite. In fact, the album's first single, "My Friends Over You," is a straight-up relationship track.

Steve explains, "is about experiencing a bad and hurtful relationship in the past and not being able to get over it. Though you meet a really nice person and things are great, you can't take it to the next level, since you keep remembering how much your last relationship took out of you. It's about taking the easy way out and choosing your friends, since that's a sure bet you won't get hurt.”

Sticks And Stones is also a more diverse record sonically. Though the signature pop-punk stylings of their self-titled record are fully in tow, the band has reached out even further, generating fresh ideas and expanding their musical bandwidth outwards. There are more hardcore-inspired breakdowns (the NFG boys even called in their hardcore friends Bane and H2O for a little added assistance on Sticks And Stones), creating more built-in crowd interaction parts. "It's awesome how kids sing along and go crazy -- and I think we put a lot of shout crowd interaction parts on the CD," vocalist Jordan adds. Chalk it up to simple progress.

"I think that [Sticks And Stones] is more aggressive and punchy, and the melodies and lyrics are in a similar vein, but they're more mature," says guitarist Chad. "All the things on this record are a natural maturity - and I think that's what people will notice. It still sounds like New Found Glory, but it just sounds like we can play our instruments better and write more diverse songs now."

But don't let that sway you into thinking that New Found Glory have veered off course in their musical adventure - they've firmly planted their roots, proven the success of their previous releases and are ready for whatever life throws their way. And what’s coming their way soon is a huge summer tour.

After seeing NFG consistently sell out venues last year that veteran, platinum acts were only half filling, the organizers of Warped Tour have secured the band for a headlining slot. So, whether you are cranking the CD in your car or checking out the band live…

Give Sticks And Stones a fair shake and climb on board the ride through life.

Evanescence Biography

Source: Evanescence-photosing365.com
Evanescence is:
Amy Lee
John Lecompt
Rocky Gray
Terry Balsamo

(and formerly)
Ben Moody, William Boyd and David Hodges.

Folks new to Evanescence fandom may be surprised to learn that Ben Moody and Amy Lee, the founding members of Evanescence, met at church camp. I interviewed Ben in 1998 and here's how he characterized the meeting:

Several years ago Amy and myself were attending a youth camp. I was playing with the praise and worship group and Amy was a camper. During some kind of break/recreation time I was sitting in the gym watching a basketball game. On the other side of the court was a stage for plays and a piano. I was just sitting there bored to tears when all of the sudden I was given a quick jolt as my ears were filled with the sound of the piano intro to Meatloaf's "I Would Do Anything For Love."

I looked over at the piano and there was this girl effortlessly displaying emmence amounts of talent. After my initial envious rage subsided I hopped to my feet and ran right through the basketball game straight to the piano and introduced myself.

She then impressed me further with songs that she had written. I thought I was in heaven. But then she sang. I nearly died. coming from this tiny little youth camp reject was one of the most powerful, beautiful voicies I'd ever heard. So I somehow convinced her to never play with anyone else again and she's been mine ever since.

Ben and Amy soon began recording songs like "Give Unto Me" and "Understanding" under the name Evanescence. With such influences as Type O Negative, Living Sacrifice (who, rumor has it, once asked Ben to join as guitarist, but he turned them down to continue focusing on Evanescence), Portishead and Sarah McLachlan they began to craft a unique sound that took in elements of metal, electronic music and (probably without intending it) goth rock.

Brad Caviness started to play "Understanding" and "Give Unto Me" on the radio show he co-hosted on KABF in Little Rock, giving Evanescence their first exposure to the world at large.

Their debut EP was released in December of 1998 at their first show (to my knowledge) at Vino's in Little Rock. The run of 100 CDRs sold out quickly that night.

At some point David Hodges joined the band on keys , but I can't give you any details on that because I don't know how that transpired. I can say that those close to the band were in shock, as Ben Moody is a notorious perfectionist who has a hard time finding anyone who he feels comfortable playing music with.

The Whisper EP was released around this time by the band with help from BigWig Enterprises on CDR (limited to 50 copies).

In time the Evanescence live show was rounded out with such members as Will Boyd (the Visitors) John Lecompt (formerly of Mindrage, currently of Kill System) and Rocky Gray (of Soul Embraced, Kill System and Living Sacrifice).

Recently David Hodges has parted ways with the band, hoping to return to his musical roots and start a new band in the Christian market. Rumor has it he and Matt Outlaw are currently writing songs for this project. John Lecompt and Rocky Gray are now considered full-fledged members of the band.

This band, once only know to us lucky few, has taken the world by storm. Their major-label debut Fallen on Wind-Up Records, home to bands such as 12 Stones and Drowning Pool has gone 5x Platinum in the US alone. The overpowering sounds of Evanescence have definently set them apart from any other band in 2003, and have won them many awards to include two grammys! However with all their success, also came lots of disappointments. With the loss of Ben Moody the question on everyone's mind is with 2/3'rds of the original band now gone will Evanescence be able to pump out an even better sophmore album? I guess only time will tell!

Audioslave Biography

Source: www.audioslave.com Audioslave-photo
In an age when the Internet search engine wields great power, choosing a title like Revelations is no small risk for Audioslave. A Google search for “Revelations” initially brings up references to “The Book of Revelation,” the chapter of the Bible that describes the end of the world. You won’t find scriptural verse in Audioslave’s Revelations, but you will find a soaring testament to the redemptive power of rock and soul. Audioslave most likely intends the title to refer to the definition that means “newly revealed information,” and on that front Revelations stands as a flaming bush atop the mount.

If Audioslave initially was stitched together as something of an alternative rock Frankenstein—a renown singer joins a renown singerless-band—this monster now has a life of its own and Revelations puts that history into back-story. This album is full of experimentation and fresh direction, while at the same time it exudes the kind of poise that could only come from pedigreed-veterans of stadium tours. Not all of Revelations easily fits into the alternative rock pigeonhole, as several songs experiment with rhythmic change-ups. Some of the singing is soulful, there are songs that are funky, and others that are anthematic, though it all adds up to a powerhouse rock record.

Though Audioslave have only been a unit for five years, and Revelations is just their third album, this is the work of a band more mature than that short span might indicate. The full Audioslave history, of course, goes back two decades and embraces two family trees. One begins in the nascent days of the early Seattle music scene of the mid-eighties when singer Chris Cornell was a high school kid fronting a cutting-edge group called Soundgarden. Cornell played with Soundgarden for more than a dozen years, and they produced five studio albums and several EPs before they broke up in 1997. A 2003 MTV poll ranked Cornell as one of the greatest vocalists in music — just behind Michael Jackson and ahead of Eminem.

In 2001 producer Rick Rubin suggested that Cornell consider hooking up with Rage Against the Machine, who had lost their lead singer the previous year. Rage had their own storied past, and over the course of four albums they had proven that a popular rock band could operate with a powerful political message at its center. They are the only band to ever have shut down the New York Stock Exchange (they were filming a Michael Moore-directed video and the brokers feared there would be a riot). Their 1996 self-titled debut was a watershed album, and one that challenged the complacency of the music industry and of hard rock at the time. Over the course of four albums, Rage established a reputation as the thinking fan’s hard rock band.

The pairing of Cornell with Rage’s guitarist Tom Morello, bassist Tim Commerford, and drummer Brad Wilk, proved to be something just short of genius, and Audioslave was formed. When the foursome first went into the studio in May 2001, they wrote 21 songs in 19 days. Audioslave, their debut album released on November 19, 2002, went on to sell five million copies worldwide. The band’s first single, “Cochise,” was followed by “Like a Stone,” and “Show Me How to Live,” all featuring a sound that is at once huge, but also intimate. That seems be one of Audioslave’s gifts: Their songs are filled with enough huge hooks to rock a stadium, but there is also a subtle magic to their sound can’t easily be charted.

Some of that is the wizardry of guitarist Tom Morello, who may be the only Harvard-educated rocker to have ever stood naked on stage at Lollapalooza (in a 1993 protest against censorship). On Revelations he expands his always-innovative runs with a style that is both brainy and heartfelt. Morello is himself no stranger to best-of polls: Rolling Stone ranked him twenty-sixth in their list of the 100 greatest guitarists of all-time. That honor looks more impressive when one observes that he was ranked just behind Freddy King, and ahead of Buddy Guy, and that Morello was one of the youngest players honored.

Commerford and Wilk also spread out on Revelations, particularly on “Broken City” and “Original Fire,” heretofore unexplored uptempo avenues for Audioslave. As Morello recently told one interviewer, “Tim and Brad are just a ferociously funky rhythm section.” But make no mistake that Revelations is a unmistakably a rock album, with ferocity being the element that ties the twelve songs together. “If you want your ass kicked, you’ve come to the right place,” Morello warns.
Brendan O’Brien, whose history with Audioslave and its members stretches back years, produced Revelations. O’Brien mixed Audioslave’s last album, 2005’s Out of Exile, and mixed Soundgarden’s 1994 disc, Superunknown, plus he produced two of Rage Against the Machine’s albums, Evil Empire and The Battle of Los Angeles. Sessions for Revelations lasted just five weeks as most of the songs had been previously honed in live performance.

In 2005, Audioslave released their second album, Out of Exile which debuted at No. 1 on the charts, and went on to sell over two million copies worldwide. Out of Exile spawned several singles including the smash “Doesn’t Remind Me.”

Audioslave’s last official release was a DVD of their historic 2005 concert in Havana, the first time an American rock band had played a show in Cuba. For musicians who have always made social activism an important part of their life, on and offstage, Revelations also represents a more overtly politic Audioslave, particularly on the song “Wide Awake.” This scathing condemnation of the Bush administration’s failures may tie together the heart and soul of Revelations. Using the kind of dark imagery that truly suggests the end of days, Cornell rails against a leader who is “trading lives for oil as if the whole world was blind.” With the power of Morello’s guitar, and the driving beat set by Wilk and Commerford, Cornell roars, “I find you guilty of a crime of sleeping at a time when you should have been wide awake.” It is a chorus that could have come straight out of “The Book of Revelation,” and one that we can only hope is not an apocalyptic prophesy.

The Click Five Biography

Source: http://www.starpulse.com/Music/Click_Five/Biography/
The Click Five-photo

It's been said that you can tell a lot about people by looking at the company they keep. So what, then, could you say about a band that's collaborated with members of Kiss, Fountains of Wayne and The Cars, opened for Alanis Morissette and Ashlee Simpson and honed their craft at Berklee School of Music?

Well, you could say they're conversant in all 57 varieties of pop-rock. You could say they're as unlikely to be pigeonholed as any band around. Or you could simply say "yeah!" as you pop on Greetings From Imrie House, the Lava Records debut from The Click Five, the Boston-based quintet that's managed to grab all the brass rings mentioned above - all in less than two years together.

"We all love melodies," says bassist Ethan Mentzer. "If I can't sing it, I'm not crazy about it. I like songs that are so damn catchy that you wake up in the morning with them in your head. When I started playing the guitar at age 12, I wanted to listen to music where you could really hear the guitar - bands like Green Day and Weezer and Stone Temple Pilots became my favorites, so when the direction of this band started going towards rock, even though the songs were pop, it only felt natural."

Greetings From Imrie House collects 11 timeless power-pop confections, odes to both the good, clean and naughtily winking sorts of fun. They capture the former in the sunny tones of the artfully sleek first single "Just The Girl," and the shimmering "Catch Your Wave" (which layers Beach Boys-styled harmonies atop a contagiously jittery new wave melody) and dive into the latter on the young lovers lust-fest "Friday Night."

The quintet - none of who is older than 23 - stands out from the current pop pack on several levels. First, there are those snappy suits (a look that dates back to the days of playing mod covers during off-time at Berklee). The more important distinctions, however, come in the aural realm - in the ringing five-part harmonies that vein just about every song, and in the alternately peppy and atmospheric keyboard parts contributed by Ben Romans.

"I'm a keyboard player trapped in a guitar player's body," he laughs. "I think it's almost comical what we do with keyboards, maybe a little off the wall. It may shadow a band like The Cars or something and we're aware of that, but in the making of this album, we got introduced to a lot of really cool stuff from around 1977-82 that we really weren't aware of before."

Quick learning and stellar instincts earned The Click Five - originally known as The Click - the endorsement of several musicians who were active during that golden era, notably Paul Stanley of Kiss, who co-wrote the strutting "Angel to You (Devil To Me)" with Romans, and Elliott Easton of The Cars, who blazes through the guitar solo on the track.

"We went to see Kiss the day before Thanksgiving of 2003 and then we got to have Thanksgiving dinner with Paul, which was an experience in itself," recalls Romans. "Paul and I sat down to write and it went amazingly well. He taught us a lot about being onstage and about songs - a lot of people forget that someone like Paul Stanley doesn't just write Kiss songs."

The Click Five's members learned a lot about songcraft while playing in a wide variety of high school bands, shifting from covers to originals and from style to style. The core of the band solidified under the roof of the apartment building that lends its name to their debut, a place that Romans remembers as "a rock and roll frat house" with a dozen residents, intermittent heat and a lobby adorned with a huge replica of The Who's logo.

While they were all in different bands at the time, they gravitated towards each other after discovering how huge a swath of musical common ground they shared. And even some they didn't- as guitarist Joe Guese remembers, "We had to study a lot of jazz at Berklee, and while it's a noble style and I certainly learned a ton about the technicalities of my guitar playing, we all really wanted to play music that just gets people out of their seats." The only missing piece was a frontman - a problem that drummer Joey Zehr thought could be solved by recruiting childhood pal Eric Dill, who'd just finished a stint at Purdue University.

"From day one, we decided that this band was going to be our lives - priorities number one, two, three and down the line," says drummer Joey Zehr "I don't even think we realize how successful we are at this point simply because our method of operation was to have a huge goal but then achieve hundreds of small goals to get there."

The band cut its teeth on Boston's notoriously tough club scene (including a three month residency at the legendary Paradise rock club), promptly winning over tastemakers who put them on arena-sized bills with acts like Alanis Morissette, Rod Stewart and Fleetwood Mac. "I was a little worried when we were booked to do those last two," admits Romans. "It was for people my parents' age, but it went over great. I guess a lot of the older folks thought it reminded them of something from their past."

They fared just as well when they played a one-off show with teen sensation Ashlee Simpson - who later tabbed them as one of the opening acts on her 2005 North American tour. "That audience is very young and enthusiastic," says singer Eric Dill. "What's cool is that they're looking for reasons to like you, not reasons to be aloof."

Produced by Mike Denneen (Fountains of Wayne, Aimee Mann, Letters to Cleo), Greetings From Imrie House opens the door to 11 inviting reasons to be fond of The Click Five - from the soaring balladry of "I'll Take My Chances," to the sensual throb of "Resign" and the starry-eyed pining of "Pop Princess." And to prove those pop history lessons stuck with 'em, they even include a cover of the Thompson Twins favorite "Lies," which would make any new wave fan proud.

"That's the song that probably got us to turn in the direction we're in now," says Romans. "We were almost kidding about it, saying 'let's pretend we're in New York in 1978,' but then we realized it's a really great song. Working that out helped us stop worrying about being the coolest band in the world, and to just start trying to be the best."
